Reflections On My Experiences In ENG2003
Reflecting on My development as a communicator
Before taking Eng 2003, I could communicate less effectively than needed for my audience to get my idea. I found it difficult to present information and report clearly and concisely that shows credibility. I was over-speaking, which led to confusion about my ideas. My communication skills have drastically improved, and I credit Eng 2003 for this. The class activities, assignments and tutorial engagement are all reasons for this improvement. The skills I improved the most are my presentation skills. Before taking Eng 2003, I was uncomfortable speaking in front of people and did not pay attention to important aspects like having a consistent tone, engaging my audience and my body language. Through Eng 2003, I have learnt the importance of improving my presentations. However, I still need to work on this with much practice. What I have learnt will help my presentation quality. Eng 2003 has changed my view on engineering courses and practices on the importance of communication skills as an engineer and how essential technical communication is in engineering practices. It helps in stakeholder handling, increasing collaborative qualities, organisation and problem analysis, clear instructions are sent and received, and standards are met. This class has changed how I handle my other courses, mainly team-based courses. By effectively communicating in collaborative work with my team, my work skills and quality of work are better. Eng 2003 was an eye-opener and has given me to tools to communicate more clearly and effectively, which would benefit me not only in the university but in my professional career.
